Register to view this On-Demand Webinar (recorded 25th July 2024) and see how to securely manage all mobile devices (laptops, smartphones, tablets) used by mechanics on the line and in the hangar with the next-gen Smart Kiosk from M3 Solutions, as used worldwide by airlines, operators and MROs such as Air Canada, US Navy and FEAM. The Webinar will feature a case study from Canadian North highlighting how the airline uses the Kiosk to ensure that its engineering teams have up-to-date and always ready-to-use mobile devices.  You will see how the Kiosk offers so much more than a secure charging station, with device tracking using barcode and RFID technology. You will also see how, crucially, the IT team can use the Kiosk’s advanced features to ensure that each device, when docked in the Kiosk, is automatically synchronized with the latest key documentation such as OEM Technical Publications; software and App updates including from M&E software vendors Trax and Smart4Aviation, as well as Boeing Toolbox. Even operating systems such as a new iOS or Android version are updated. Additionally, IT Teams can push any data or alerts to each device through the Kiosk, and full compliance is ensured through only releasing the device from the Kiosk once it has received all the critical content such as the latest Technical Publications.

With airlines and MROs around the world embarking on digital transformation projects, mobile devices used by mechanics on the line and in the hangar are becoming as important as physical tools to carry out the work.  The Webinar begins by looking at the mounting challenges Canadian North was facing from manually managing their mobile devices as well as data, Apps, and document updates to each device.  You will also learn about the challenges and inefficiencies the airline faced from using outdated paper-based systems as well as difficulties in managing the complex workflow within a remote operational environment.  Next the Webinar will focus on why Canadian North chose a shared-device model for its mechanics and how this is crucial for mitigating common human errors, maintaining security, and keeping cost of ownership low. Lastly, you will see how automating content deployment for technical publications, maintenance documentation, applications and operating systems can eliminate bottlenecks and improve the bottom line.

The Webinar is divided into the following three key sections:

  1. Paperless Maintenance Best Practice: Inc. Canadian North Low Connectivity Case Study
The webinar will begin with a discussion about the challenges and benefits for airlines and MROs when transitioning to mobile line and hangar maintenance, including regulatory compliance, managing technical publications, change management processes, costs, efficiency savings, and more. You will hear a breakdown of how airlines and MROs are currently handling this shift, along with valuable insights on best practices and strategies. The discussion will particularly emphasize the importance, for compliance, risk mitigation, and operational efficiency, of moving from paper-based operations to digital formats. Canadian North will outline the challenges and inefficiencies the airline faced from using outdated paper-based systems as well as difficulties in managing the complex workflow within a remote operational environment.
  1. Shared Device vs. Dedicated Device Model: Inc Canadian North Shared Device Case Study
The discussion will then shift focus to whether airlines and MROs should provide mechanics with dedicated mobile devices or adopt a shared device strategy. Experts will explore the challenges of using a dedicated device model compared to a shared device model, including managing and synchronizing technical publications, maintenance manuals, and other key apps and content, as well as ensuring that devices are always fully charged, ready for use, and secure from viruses due to external use. Using examples from Canadian North’s hands on experience, you will gain insights into why a shared device model is crucial for keeping costs low, maintaining security, and improving operational performance. Ultimately, the IT and logistics departments can take ownership of device management, addressing associated problems and updates, while mechanics are free to focus on their tasks.

  2. M3 Solutions Mobile Device Management Kiosk Overview: Automation and Self-Service
The M3 Solutions team will then provide a full overview of the M3 platform showing its key features and benefits.  You will see how the Kiosk offers so much more than a secure charging station, with device tracking using barcode and RFID technology. You will also see how, crucially, airline and MRO IT teams can use the Kiosk’s advanced features to ensure that each device, when docked in the Kiosk, is automatically synchronized with the latest key documentation such as OEM Technical Publications; software and App updates including from M&E software vendors, as well as key info such as Boeing Toolbox. Even operating systems such as a new iOS or Android version are updated.  Additionally, IT Teams can push any data or alerts to each device through the Kiosk, and full compliance is ensured through only releasing the device from the Kiosk once it has received all the critical content such as the latest Technical Publications and maintenance manuals.

Register to view this on-demand webinar (recorded 14th December 2023) to discover, via a full demo of the IFS Engine MRO solution, how the latest developments in cloud-based Engine MRO management software provide MROs, airlines, and operators with the digital tools, data and real-time functionality needed to control and simplify the end-to-end processes and complexities of an Engine Shop visit.  As you will see, IFS Engine MRO is an industry tailored solution (designed around a gate approach for best practice methodology) that provides end-to-end support from shop visit work scoping to execution to inventory management through to re-delivery and all supporting processes.  During the Webinar IFS Cloud experts will take you on a demo of the solution from the perspective of both a work package planner and shop floor engineer.  You will see how the planner builds an optimum work package utilizing automation and outcome-based simulations to control the release of disassembly and assembly task cards, and manage scope of parts removed from the engine, the list of SBs and ADs to be applied during the shop visit and complex LLPs, plus managing and monitoring customer changes.  Next you will see how the shop floor engineer can utilize the latest mobile technology to collaborate with and share faults in real-time with remote experts; plus, how the solution automates and provides the engineer with data driven answers to key questions such as: should a part repair be carried out in-house or be sent for an external repair? should a part be scrapped? what about LLPs and modifications? You will also see how automated repair-code mapping, built around historical data and OEM manuals, provides engineers with pro-active repair suggestions for previously complex procedures.

The Webinar is divided into 4 key sections:

  1. IFS Products Overview, plus IFS Engine MRO Solution; MRO Industry Challenges
The Webinar begins with a quick overview of IFS, before a more detailed look at IFS Engine MRO which, as you will see, covers the depth and breadth of the entire MRO process, from the opportunity management to Bidding & Quoting to Executing to Contract, and finally through Release, Invoicing, and Reporting.  You will then learn about industry challenges facing MROs, and specifically labour shortages for qualified technicians. You will see how IFS Engine MRO provides MROs, airlines, and operators with the digital tools, data and functionality needed to control and simplify the end-to-end processes and complexities of an Engine Shop visit, thereby enhancing efficiency and mitigating labour shortages.

  2. IFS Engine MRO Demo 1: Shop Planner – Build a Work Package with Automation
The first demo you will see showcases how, with planning driven automation and outcome-based simulations, the Planner can build the optimum work packages.  Traditional challenges for planners with setting up an Engine Shop Visit, have included multiple data sources arriving with the engine (Engine IPC, Engine Shop Manual, LLPs, Modifications, etc.), complex LLP removal, what modifications are needed (SB’s and AD’s), plus changes to the work scope from the customer, and tracking and monitoring the changes throughout the shop cycle.  The demo will show how the solution guides the planner through the process, largely automating previously complex decisions such as selecting modifications and life limited parts to be removed which are added to the work order.

  3. IFS Engine MRO Demo 2: Shop Engineer – Auto Repair Mapping & Pro-Active Repair Suggestions
Next, the demo will move to the shop floor to see how an engineer utilizes advanced functionality, such as pro-active repair suggestions and automated repair-code mapping, to make maintenance execution more efficient.  Traditionally, the engineer has faced complex decisions during the engine disassembly phase which can have impact further down the Engine repair chain, such as should a part repair be carried out in-house or be sent for an external repair? should a part be scrapped? what about LLPs and modifications?

You will also see how automated repair-code mapping, built around historical data and OEM manuals, provides engineers with pro-active repair suggestions to these questions and how automated work scopes are generated for internal and external repairs, plus how the system auto identifies the modification applicability regarding SBs and ADs and drives compliance.

  4. IFS Engine MRO Demo 3: Shop Engineer – Mobile Remote Collaboration with Experts
Finally, you will see how engineers can use mobile technology to remotely collaborate with experts from the point of work to further benefit execution, enabling reliable decisions.  Traditionally, the conventional way when an engineer needs guidance is to write down the findings and take pictures to share in an email to the relevant technical services expert.  The expert will then send a reply later or the next day, so the process can take a long time as well as generate human errors.  During the Demo you will see the IFS remote assistance App, and how this can connect the engineer to the technical services expert in real-time.  You will also see how the App shows historical data and calls.
