Webinar Overview

Register to view this On-Demand Webinar (recorded 27th July 2023) to learn about the latest strategies and technology available to securely manage all mobile devices (iPads, smartphones, tablets, laptops, etc.), as used by mechanics on the line and in the hangar.  With airlines and MROs globally embarking on digital transformation projects, mobile devices used by mechanics are becoming as important as physical tools to carry out the work.  But should an airline or MRO provide each Mechanic with their own personal mobile device or adopt a shared device strategy? How do you ensure that each device is fully updated with all technical publications, OEMS manuals, internal and external Apps, to ensure compliance and to keep the mechanic at the aircraft side? Join M3 Solutions and industry experts from AeroATeam as they discuss and answer these key questions sharing experiences from Air Canada’s extensive mobile device management project. First, the panel looks at the challenges and benefits for airlines and MROs when transitioning to mobile maintenance, including regulatory compliance, managing technical publications, the change management process, costs, efficiency savings, and more. Next, the discussion focuses on whether to provide mechanics with dedicated mobile devices or adopt a shared device strategy. As you will see, after an extensive evaluation process, Air Canada chose shared devices.

Finally, you will see an overview of the next-gen smart kiosk from M3 Solutions, as used by Air Canada to ensure its engineering teams have up-to-date and always ready mobile devices. You will see how the Kiosk, as developed with Air Canada, offers so much more than a secure charging solution, with device tracking using barcode and RFID technology, and crucially how the IT team can use the Kiosk’s advanced features to ensure each device, when docked in the Kiosk, is automatically synchronized with the latest key documentation such as OEM Technical Publications, software and App updates from third party suppliers such as Boeing Toolbox or Inventory / Spare Parts providers, ensuring the Mechanic is able to perform their tasks quickly and with full compliance at the aircraft side.

The Webinar is divided into three key sections:

  • Challenges and Benefits for Airlines and MROs in the Transition to Mobile Maintenance
First the panel of experts discuss the challenges and benefits for airlines and MROs when transitioning to mobile line and hangar maintenance, including regulatory compliance, managing technical publications, change management process, costs, efficiency savings, and more.  You will hear a breakdown of how airlines and MROs are currently handling this transition and valuable insights on best practices and strategies;in particular the importance of the transition from paper-based operations to digital formats in relation to compliance, risk migration, and operations efficiency.

  • Dedicated Mobile Devices or Shared Devices Strategy? Which is best?
The discussion next focuses on whether airlines and MROs should provide mechanics with dedicated mobile devices or adopt a shared device strategy.  You will learn about the challenges that stem from using a dedicated device model over a shared device model when managing and synchronizing technical publications, maintenance manuals, and other key apps and content; as well as ensuring the device is always fully charged and ready and not compromised with viruses due to external use. Using examples from Air Canada’s own mobile project you will see why a shared device model is crucial for keeping cost of ownership low, maintaining security, and improving operational performance.  Ultimately, the IT and logistics department can take ownership of the device management and associated problems and updates, whilst the mechanics and can focus on their tasks at hand.

  • Overview of the Mobile Device Management Platform: The M3 Platform
Finally, you will see an overview of the next-gen smart kiosk from M3 Solutions, as used by Air Canada to ensure its engineering teams have up-to-date and always ready mobile devices. You will see how the Kiosk has evolved as Air Canada’s mobile maintenance project matured, and offers so much more than a secure charging solution, with device tracking using barcode and RFID technology, and, crucially, how the IT team can use the Kiosk’s advanced features to ensure each device, when docked in the Kiosk, is automatically and remotely synchronized with the latest key documentation such as OEM Technical Publications, software and App updates from third party suppliers such as Boeing Toolbox or Inventory / Spare Parts providers; and even operating systems such as a new iOS or Android version,  ensuring the Mechanic is able to perform their tasks quickly and with full compliance at the point of maintenance.

About the Aircraft IT Webinar Series:

Every 2 weeks the Aircraft IT website hosts a different live Webinar, each Webinar hosted by a different IT Vendor. These sessions represent the perfect opportunity to learn about a software solution in a more informal manner and to quickly gain an in-depth knowledge of all the major systems on the market, all from the comfort of your own office or home with no sales pressure.

The IT vendor provides a live software demonstration/masterclass of their solution and explains how it can benefit airlines, MROs, Operators, OEMs, Leasing Companies. Once logged on, online delegates can ask questions via the interactive sections of the Webinar or simply sit back and watch and listen to the demonstration. There are two sessions during the day, each differently times to accommodate all time zones.

Each Webinar session is recorded, and an On-Demand version is then posted back to the Aircraft IT website a few days after the live session to allow you to view the content again with your colleagues. The library of On-Demand Webinar recordings provides an invaluable reference source of Flight Operations software demonstrations from the World’s leading Flight Operations IT Vendors.
