Gulf Air Adopts Honeywell’s GoDirect Flight Efficiency Software To Lower Fuel Costs And Enhance Environmental Efficiency
ROLLE, Switzerland, July 30, 2018 /PRNewswire/ — Gulf Air, the national carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain, has selected Honeywell’s (NYSE: HON) GoDirect® Flight Efficiency analytics software to reduce fuel costs across its entire Airbus and Boeing fleet and to help minimize the carbon footprint of the airline. The innovative Connected Aircraft service analyzes a multitude of flight-related factors to optimize fuel efficiency, aiming to help the airline reduce its fuel consumption and lower associated operational costs, which can run to hundreds of millions of dollars.
“Fuel costs constitute a large proportion of expenses for any airline. It is essential that Gulf Air has a clear overview of the fuel used by our fleet to lower consumption and improve our operational efficiency,” said Captain Waleed Abdulhameed AlAlawi, deputy chief executive officer, Gulf Air. “Honeywell’s GoDirect Flight Efficiency software allows Gulf Air to quickly improve our fuel consumption by analyzing the performance of our aircraft at different stages.”
GoDirect Flight Efficiency uses a set of unique algorithms and data analytics to inform fuel-saving decisions both on the flight deck and at the operations base. It allows flight operation crews to find and resolve fuel inefficiencies while informing pilots about shortcuts, optimal climb speeds, cruise altitudes, and other opportunities to reduce fuel usage. Existing users of the service have reported fuel savings of up to 5 percent.
“Our airline operations division was directed to focus on reducing fuel costs to enhance our environmentally friendly practices,” said Captain Suhail Abdulhameed Abdulaziz Ismaeel, chief operating officer, Gulf Air. “The intuitive user interface of Honeywell’s software provides us with sophisticated reports and dashboards that are clearly understandable and designed to help us meet our targets on lowering emissions through improved fuel efficiency.”
Honeywell’s GoDirect Flight Efficiency software boasts a user-friendly interface and integrates with existing aircraft components to produce more than 100 predefined analysis reports. These reports improve flight-planning capabilities and empower pilots with unprecedented levels of insight, helping to expand their knowledge of operations and allowing them to learn from previous flights.
“Airlines have an ever-increasing need to improve fuel consumption, both to reduce emissions and to get the most out of their existing aircraft. Even small fuel savings can impact an airline’s profitability when multiplied by hundreds, or thousands, of flights annually,” said David Shilliday, vice president, Airlines, EMEAI, Honeywell Aerospace. “Our GoDirect Flight Efficiency solution is a user-friendly Connected Aircraft service that integrates data sources to monitor fuel use in real time. It detects opportunities to generate fuel savings and identifies ways to lower the environmental impact of an aircraft.”
Gulf Air joins an expanding list of airlines adopting GoDirect Flight Efficiency to help manage fuel consumption. Current users include, Air Lingus, British Airways, Etihad Airways, KLM, Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines.
EXSYN ADDS AIRCRAFT DATA SCAN TO ITS PORTFOLIO
EXSYN ADDS AIRCRAFT DATA SCAN TO ITS PORTFOLIO
Within airlines often not enough attention has been paid and given to data audits that verify the information residing within either isolated data islands or integrated systems. In the past months, EXSYN has increasingly been approached by airlines that would like improve their data quality for several reasons. Thus, EXSYN has developed a methodology to help airlines in this process by using its various tools and knowhow in order to benchmark the airline’s / aircraft continued airworthiness data against industry standards and best practice.
Airlines typically undergo a data scan with EXSYN when:
- Considering a replacement/upgrade of their existing MRO/M&E software system
- They need an independent party to verify the data accuracy of their fleet data
- They need to return a leased aircraft, renew the lease of an aircraft or plan to retire a fleet of aircraft to best assess its records and plan for optimized utilization and maintenance

Document build and audit enables rapid re-marketing and fleet transition
Staffordshire, UK – 24th July 2018 – FLYdocs, the aviation data and records management solution provider and global industry leader in managing the lease transfer of aircraft and assets, today announced the successful completion of the digital document build and audit of 17 Dash 8 Q400 aircraft on behalf of Nordic Aviation Capital (NAC), the global leader in regional aircraft leasing.
During 2017, NAC had 17 aircraft on lease to LGW, a German subsidiary of the Air Berlin Group. With rumours circulating in late 2017 of Air Berlin’s closure, NAC had an urgent requirement for a complete fleet digital records build and audit to facilitate the immediate re-marketing and leasing of their aircraft to another Operator, should the unfortunate need arise.
NAC began working with FLYdocs in September 2017. At the NAC site in Berlin, the FLYdocs technical team scanned and uploaded over 400 boxes of records. In just 17 days, a total of 1,134, 359 pages were scanned – representing a staggering 67,000 pages per day. Equally impressive is what followed – the complete build and audit of 2 aircraft per week.
Barry Keenaghan, AVP Transaction Asset Management at NAC comments: “We were initially impressed by the technical capabilities of the FLYdocs platform and confident that FLYdocs had the global scale to fulfil such a time-critical programme. We contracted FLYdocs to manage the complete project from scanning to audit, and with the fleet already in transition to their new Operator, we have the FLYdocs team to thank for their hard work and expertise in challenging circumstances.”
FLYdocs Director of Global Sales, John Bowell adds: “The future of no airline can be guaranteed, and therefore it is in every lessor’s best interest to have an up-to-date digital document build of their flights records as an insurance policy to minimise losses due to external factors beyond their control. At FLYdocs, we are committed to going above and beyond for our clients, and I commend our team who delivered exceptional results to ensure NAC’s timescales were met. We delivered on our promise, and importantly helped put NAC in a position to quickly re-market their fleet and safeguard revenues.”
