Air New Zealand sign contract for Aventus Nowcast™
AVTECH Sweden AB has entered into another commercial contract for its Aventus NowCast™ product system, this time with Air New Zealand.
“Previously, another airline in the Middle East has already begun implementing, and thereby solving the challenges of, Time Based Operations (TBO) using the Aventus NowCast™ system. Time Based Operations (TBO) is a key step in the implementation of Performance Based Operations (PBO), which opens up new possibilities to operate aircraft more efficiently than done today.”
Wolfgang Sagmeister, Business Unit Director of Products & Marketing at AVTECH Sweden
Over a short period of time, AVTECH has closed another, strategically important, contract in terms of its wind product, Aventus NowCast™. Aventus NowCast™ has shown great savings of fuel per approach in live trials and operations. The system also reduces the environmental impact in terms of noise and emissions. Moreover, it enables the aircraft to meet required time of arrival (RTA) within seconds, through which gains are seen to be even larger than the direct fuel savings.
New Zealand is a country characterized by a willingness to readily embrace newly invented technologies, in particular for environmental reasons. Fuel efficiency in transportation is a priority as part of the overall government environmental policy in New Zealand. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) in New Zealand has had an implementation plan for PBN (Performance Based Navigation) in place since the end of 2009 and the policy was issued in April 2012. Implementing Time Based Operations (TBO) is therefore another important step for environmentally conscious countries, like New Zealand, seeking to make long-term environmental progress.
“This agreement with AVTECH represents a significant step forward in our goal of achieving a truly perfect descent and arrival. Under our environmental strategy Air New Zealand have already implemented initiatives that have resulted in more continuous descents, reduced ATC intervention, and the use of tailored arrivals or RNP AR procedures to reduce track miles. Time based 4DT technology is the final step in the journey towards a perfect descent. Air New Zealand looks forward to working with AVTECH in implementing their 4DT technology to further optimise the aircraft descent and arrivals.“ says Bob Fletcher, Air New Zealand’s Manager Operations Support.

AMOS to be implemented at all five members of the Thomas Cook Group
A group decision
Thomas Cook Belgium, Condor Berlin and Condor Flugdienst are long-term customers of Swiss-AS. Recently, the remaining members of the Thomas Cook Group (TC UK and Scandinavia) decided to replace their legacy system with AMOS. The decision to implement AMOS group-wide across Europe was the result of the latest assessment of the group’s requirements and the new corporate strategy. The benchmark established AMOS as the preferred solution for the travel group.
“We are very pleased to cooperate with the entire Thomas Cook Group. The fact that AMOS is well-known in the group and has now been chosen for all group members, re-confirms AMOS’ functional maturity as well as the good relationship Swiss-AS holds with its customers,” says Ronald Schaeuffele, CEO of Swiss-AS.
Paul Horstink, Head of Group Maintenance organisation at Thomas Cook, states: “The decision to bring all the maintenance organisations of the Thomas Cook airlines together in a Group Maintenance Organisation has been made a year ago and we are well advanced in the implementation phase. AMOS is a huge enabler to maximise the synergy effects in bringing together the organisations”.
Multi-Entity Support for five AOCs
One of Swiss-AS’ latest developments, the Multi-Entity Support, was one key factor for being awarded the contract. This function hosts and integrates multiple financially independent companies on one system, allowing an airline group with subsidiaries in different countries to consolidate all activities on one system while still complying with local regulations.
The Multi-Entity Support in AMOS enables the Thomas Cook Group to manage its multiple AOCs, with multiple financial accounting, maintenance programs and local authorities within one system while realising substantial synergies on group level.
About Thomas Cook Group plc
Founded in 2007 by the merger of Thomas Cook AG und MyTravel, Thomas Cook Group plc is one of the world’s leading leisure travel groups. Thomas Cook UK, Thomas Cook Belgium, Thomas Cook Scandinavia, Condor Flugdienst and Condor Berlin formed the London based group. Thomas Cook Group plc operates in 22 countries worldwide and has about 90 aircraft in operation. The group’s aircraft maintenance is mainly performed in-house: From A Checks to Heavy Maintenance and these services are also provided to 3rd parties.
About Swiss AviationSoftware and AMOS
AMOS – developed and distributed by Swiss AviationSoftware – is a comprehensive, fully-integrated software package that successfully manages the maintenance, engineering and logistics requirements of modern airlines and MRO providers by fulfilling all airworthiness standards. Swiss-AS is a 100% subsidiary of Swiss International Air Lines Ltd., and counts more than 100 customers worldwide to its loyal customer base, including pure operators of all sizes, major low-cost, regional and flag carriers, large airline groups and MRO providers.
The fact that none of them has ever replaced AMOS by another system speaks for itself. Swiss-AS’ AMOS is the industry-leading MRO software in Europe and one of the best-selling solutions world-wide. Swiss-AS has its headquarters in Basel, Switzerland, and is also represented in Miami, FL, USA. SWISS-AS.COM
Expanded capability for Flygprestanda’s rebuilt Performance Guru
Now on iPad for EFB!
Flygprestanda have announced that they are releasing a first version of their iPad Performance Guru, now in October. This application which has been used by operators on Windows since 2004 is completely rebuilt with a new user interface and adopted for EFB use. The application may also be provided with an optional Weight & Balance module.
The new iPad application will be demonstrated by Flygprestanda during the OPS-IT conference in Bankok in two weeks and at MEBA in December.
New manage/m® Tool enables Advanced Maintenance Interval Scheduling
New manage/m® Tool enables Advanced Maintenance Interval Scheduling
Lufthansa Technik’s WebSuite manage/m® has been enhanced by a new function. Maintenance Schedule Condition Monitoring (MSCM) is a tool with which the findings and non-findings on an aircraft can be evaluated. The results serve to make interval scheduling more efficient.
Seamlessly integrated into the manage/m® WebSuite, MSCM enhances the module m/reliability, which provides information about the efficiency of the maintenance program, displaying details on the actual findings and non-findings of an aircraft. What m/reliability now offers its users is an even more extensive data base, with which the maintenance intervals of Maintenance Schedule Items can be evaluated and rated in a substantiated way. The new system, for example, shows if there are fewer findings than actually expected during the inspections of Maintenance Schedule Items in the Maintenance Program.
Within m/reliability’s new function, a number of charts give an insight into the actual efficiency of the maintenance program intervals. An automatic warning function informs the system engineer, if, for example, a Maintenance Schedule Item has had very little findings within an interval. In this case, an adjustment of the according maintenance interval may be a suitable option, enabling the operator to use the full potential of the component in question.
The new function can be easily used by all manage/m® customers whose entire scheduled maintenance process is handled by Lufthansa Technik , including the scanning and analyzing process of jobcards through m/archive. Therefore, MSCM gives operators and engineers a chance to recheck the intervals and adjust them according to the results. In the long run, it is expected to achieve substantial cost savings and to help keeping the airplane where it belongs – in the air.
Flybe’s training records streamlined with EFOS
Flybe, Europe’s largest regional airline, has selected EFOS from Evoke Systems to provide electronic crew training records in a strategic move away from paper based records.
Maintaining paper training records for 700 pilots and 900 cabin crew geographically dispersed over the UK had become manually intensive, cumbersome and a potentially error prone process for Flybe. Confirmation of training and check statuses under a complex regulatory regime was a continuous challenge. It was clear that the adoption of electronic training records was essential to Flybe’s growth plans. The selection and introduction of EFOS has delivered not only an immediate and huge potential cost saving but also a significant improvement in the efficiency of the training process.
Steve Deverall, Training Standards Manager at Flybe comments that, “EFOS has significantly reduced the burden of paper while speeding up and improving our training processes. Also, by blending training feedback, actual experience and regulatory compliance, EFOS has certainly met the needs of our ATQP for flexibility in pilots’ simulator training.
“We were impressed by Evoke’s presentation and their willingness to engage with us as partners to tailor the product for Flybe’s needs. They have an impressive record, successfully addressing challenges similar to those we faced, and were responsive and helpful during the installation process. And we couldn’t have further developed our ATQP without EFOS.”
Martin Smith, Managing Director of Evoke Systems confirms; “EFOS isn’t just a software package. We back it with extensive domain knowledge and experience to become trusted advisers and partners for our customers.”
The installation of EFOS starting in May 2012, has already delivered positive returns. With the continued and planned expansion at Flybe the training administration task can now be fulfilled without the need for additional headcount.
Flybe has also enjoyed very positive feedback from users; Steve Deverall again; “People don’t usually like change but EFOS has been very well received from the start.”
