Register to view this On-Demand Webinar (recorded 4th November 2021) to see a demo and overview of the groundbreaking real-time condition-based aircraft maintenance (CBM) project and solutions from ReMAP, a European project involving 13 members including Airbus, Embraer, KLM, Thales, Collins Aerospace, and others. CBM is designed to make the maintenance of aircraft fleets smarter and more efficient for airlines and MROs worldwide. During the Webinar ReMAP experts will share their research and results on solutions that leverage the vast quantities of real-time data from aircraft sensors combined with artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced data analytics, to make CBM a reality in aircraft maintenance, such as: predicting systems and parts failures, optimizing maintenance tasks during checks using a decision support tool to reduce non-routines or unexpected interventions, and the first open-source databank on composite structures. As you will see, using these new technologies, with the use of health diagnostics and prognostics from dissimilar aircraft systems and structures allows airlines and MROs to create adaptive maintenance plans, moving away from traditional and inefficient pre-scheduled maintenance or reactive repairs, and leading to reduced unscheduled maintenance events, and an increase in aircraft availability.

The Webinar begins with an overview of the ReMAP project focusing on the challenges in adopting condition-based maintenance in the aviation sector, before a case study from airline KLM.  You will see analysis of implementing and using CBM solutions in an operational environment on both the KLM 787 and 737 fleets, with a look at the IT structure and the protection of private data.  You will then see a demo of the ReMAP IT platform to build artificial intelligence models to detect and predict the remaining useful life of systems, structures, and parts. Finally, you will see the research and results from the maintenance decision support tool and how airlines can benefit from this solution.

The Webinar is divided into 6 key sections:

  1. Brief presentation of ReMAP vision and webinar goal
    ReMAP is a European project started in 2018 and will be end in May 2022. The project addresses the specific challenge to take a step forward into adopting condition-based maintenance in the aviation sector. In this section, Bruno Santos, the project coordinator, will provide a quick overview of the ReMAP’s main goals and give a quick overview of the webinar objectives.

  2. KLM Case Study: Implementing CBM in commercial aviation
    The potential of CBM in future aircraft maintenance is widely recognized as a way to reduce costs, increase safety and increase aircraft availability. In this section Floris Freemen, from KLM, will bring to the webinar an airline perspective on the potential operational efficiency of CBM when compared with current maintenance practices. The results of 6 months’ test implementation on the airline’s 787 and 737 fleets are revealed and analyzed.

  3. Demo of ReMAP IT Platform: Making the most of data, while preserving its confidentiality
    Making CBM a reality largely depends on the ability to train artificial intelligence models to detect and predict the remaining useful life of systems and structures. As you will see in this demo section, with ReMAP IT platform, airlines, MROs, model builders are given the ability to build AI models with data from different stakeholders, while guaranteeing full confidentiality of data.

  4. ReMAP Predictive Health Monitoring (PHM) Approach: Predicting systems’ failures
    As you will see ReMAP uses novel machine-learning based AI algorithms to perform fully automated failure prediction and estimation of the remaining useful life of Aircraft systems and components. In this section, Anarta Gosh, will talk us through this innovative PHM approach adopted by ReMAP.

  5. ReMAP Maintenance Decision Support Tool: Optimizing aircraft maintenance tasks
    Modern aircraft have thousands of parts, systems, and components that need to be recurrently inspected or replaced. Combining regular maintenance checks with non-routine or unexpected interventions can be challenging, especially for big airlines. In this section, Bruno Santos will present ReMAPs maintenance decision support tool, a system that, through AI, optimizes the allocation of maintenance tasks to maintenance opportunities.

  6. The next steps: Structural Health Monitoring test campaign & Databank Demonstration exercise
    The final section will focus on two key events for the ReMAP project: the launch of the first open-access intelligent knowledge databank to predict the future state of composite aircraft structures and the demonstration exercise that is now starting and will be implemented over the next 6 months.
