Register to view this On-Demand Webinar (recorded 24th September 2026) to explore SITA’s new OptiFlight Descent Optimization solution, powered by the latest machine learning (ML) and digital twin tech, and designed to provide pilots with the most likely ATC descent instructions and to tap into the 45% of fuel savings possible during efficient descent. During the Webinar, SITA experts will introduce you to this final module in the popular SITA OptiFlight suite already used on 2,500+ aircraft globally. You will see how the solution works across three steps. Firstly, Predict and how ML models analyze ATC patterns, and live airspace context including planned runway and STAR, estimated time of arrival, month of year, cruise flight level, departure airport and arrival sector, wind conditions, and traffic intensity to compute probability for every possible waypoint combination and predict the most likely flown descent, including expected shortcuts, directs, track miles and speed instructions. Next, Optimize and how SITA OptiFlight’s Digital Twin, based on the predicted route, re-computes the optimal top-of-descent position and fuel-efficient speed schedule for an idle-thrust descent with no airbrakes, and fewer level offs, respecting altitude and speed constraints. Finally, Measure that uses QAR data and the tail-specific Digital Twin after each flight to compare the applied descent against a simulated ECON profile, generating monthly verified fuel and CO2 savings.
Next, you will see how the data is delivered to the flightdeck via ACARS, works without WiFi connectivity, causes no workflow disruptions, and allows pilots to adopt instantly via two entries in the FMS. Finally, you will see some results from a test in South America which showed 70% of ATC instructions correctly predicted, with approximately 40kg average fuel saved per applied flight (using A320neo).
What You’ll Learn
Descent is one of the biggest remaining opportunities for airlines to reduce fuel burn and emissions, yet it remains one of the most difficult phases of flight to optimize. Unpredictable ATC instructions, changing airspace conditions, and pilot workload can make fuel-efficient descents challenging to achieve consistently. Join SITA’s experts to discover how SITA OptiFlight® Descent Optimization helps airlines anticipate what is most likely to happen during descent, enabling pilots to make more fuel-efficient decisions while maintaining full operational control.
In this webinar, you’ll discover:
- Why descent matters more than ever
– Why descent remains one of aviation’s largest untapped fuel-saving opportunities.
– The operational and environmental impact of inefficient arrivals.
– Why advancements in ATM modernization and data availability are creating new opportunities for airlines.
- How SITA OptiFlight® Descent Optimization works
– How machine learning predicts likely ATC instructions before descent begins.
– How digital twin technology calculates a fuel-efficient descent profile tailored to the expected trajectory.
– How pilots receive simple, actionable guidance while retaining complete decision-making authority.
- The value for pilots and airlines
– Improved situational awareness during one of the most dynamic phases of flight.
– More predictable descents with fewer energy corrections and unnecessary level-offs.
– Verifiable fuel and CO₂ savings measured against actual flight operations.
- From operational concept to real-world results
– How the solution is delivered through existing operational workflows with no disruption to cockpit procedures.
– Results from live airline testing and the fuel-saving potential demonstrated in commercial operations.
– What’s next for SITA OptiFlight® Descent Optimization and its integration into the broader OptiFlight® portfolio.
Whether your focus is fuel efficiency, sustainability, flight operations, or pilot experience, this session will provide practical insight into how airlines can transform descent from a reactive process into a more predictable, data-driven phase of flight.
About the Aircraft IT Webinar Series:
Every 2 weeks the Aircraft IT website hosts a different live Webinar, each Webinar hosted by a different IT Vendor. These sessions represent the perfect opportunity to learn about a software solution in a more informal manner and to quickly gain an in-depth knowledge of all the major systems on the market, all from the comfort of your own office or home with no sales pressure.
The IT vendor provides a live software demonstration/masterclass of their solution and explains how it can benefit airlines, MROs, Operators, OEMs, Leasing Companies. Once logged on, online delegates can ask questions via the interactive sections of the Webinar or simply sit back and watch and listen to the demonstration. There are two sessions during the day, each differently times to accommodate all time zones.
Each Webinar session is recorded, and an On-Demand version is then posted back to the Aircraft IT website a few days after the live session to allow you to view the content again with your colleagues. The library of On-Demand Webinar recordings provides an invaluable reference source of Flight Operations software demonstrations from the World’s leading Flight Operations IT Vendors.
