Webinar Overview

Register to view this On-Demand Webinar (recorded 9th March 2023) to see a demo and overview of the powerful and industry unique Fleet Data Monitoring Platform from FlightWatching which connects to the aircraft in real-time, querying live parameters without the need for any modification.  As you will see, the solution uses any type of nose-to-tail data sources from the aircraft: ACARS in real-time, or stored data such as QAR, DAR, SAR. During the Webinar you will see demos of solutions that FlightWatching has developed to tap into the data using innovative algorithms and the latest AI / Machine Learning technology, such as predictive maintenance analytics, on-ground fuel saving analysis, and on-time performance analysis.  You will also see how airlines, MROs, and OEMs can take charge of their own data and embed FlightWatching into third party solutions using APIs or build their own analysis dashboards.  The platform operates in a browser so works on all devices, connecting with the FlightWatching server which collects the data and computes algorithms in real-time, providing results and trends to users. The platform is used by over 20 customers worldwide monitoring over 400 aircraft encompassing all types from legacy to the latest modern aircraft.

The Webinar begins with a short overview of the FlightWatching platform, before discussing particular use cases for different customers.  For example, OEMs will be provided with data to better understand failure modes and develop algorithms to identify precursors of hard failures. MROs will be interested in optimizing their repair costs by scheduling removals to reduce BER (Beyond Economic Repair). Airlines will monitor aircraft health at a competitive price, reduce fuel burn on ground and optimize on-time performance.  Additionally for IT companies, they can see how to integrate FlightWatching real-time fleet monitoring data into their own and third partly solutions.

You will then see demos of the platform and the different solutions FlightWatching provides, from initially logging into the platform and seeing the fully customizable dashboards showing alerts from individual aircraft and the status of the rest of the fleet, then drilling down into the data to view an anomaly or view the data from a particular event, to seeing how to establish different levels of data analysis.  From simple alerts to any potential problems, to building custom reports and data answering questions such as: what is my average time to wait for pushback at a particular airport? How long did the aircraft run an APU? How many spare sparts should we store and where? How do the bleed systems behave in harsh conditions? How often does this fault occur? and more.  You will then see demos of the different innovative solutions developed by FlightWatching using AI / Machine Learning real-time analysis and data driven models including: predictive maintenance, on-ground fuel saving analysis, and on-time performance analysis.

The Webinar is divided into six key sections:

  1. An Overview and Demo of FlightWatching Platform Capabilities and Use Cases
First you will see a quick tour of the platform and the different use cases for airlines, MROs, OEMs and IT companies.  You will learn about the data sets and how the fleet monitoring platform connects in real-time querying live parameters from each aircraft without the need for any modifications.  You will see an initiallogin to the platform and the fully customizable dashboards showing alerts from individual aircraft and the rest of the fleet whether in-flight or on the ground. Via an APU demo, you can see alerts and trends and drill down further into the data to see specific events (such as an ACARS message) to explain an anomaly in the data.  You can then further drill down into the ACARS message and generate a dashboard to show the aircraft data at that exact moment.

  2. Data Analytics: From Trends to AI / Machine Learning
This is the more technical portion of the Webinar. It will describe how FlightWatching strategically tackles complexity within data management. Each problem has its own solution whether it be using a statistical, mathematical or machine learning approach. You will see how this approach allows users to set up different levels of data management, from simple alerts to potential problems or anomalies, to building statistical reports and dashboards to answer key operational queries and analyze over time, to using innovative AI / Machine Learning real-time analysis and data driven models.

  3. Platform Demo: Predictive Maintenance with a B787 APU
Next the demo will deep dive into the backbone of the tool taking a B787 APU use case. The demo will allow you to understand how far users can get into data exploration, customization and how it converts into value. In this part, you’ll see how the intelligence of the platform brings values to stretch equipment dispatch reliability, improve time on wing and reduce maintenance costs. You will see how engineers are alerted to potential problems before they lead to an AOG, and how the data can advise when the component should be removed and repaired or replaced during scheduled maintenance.

  4. Platform Demo: On-Ground Fuel Saving Solutions – APU and Single-Engine Taxi
Next you will see how real time connectivity to the Aircraft also opens huge opportunities to save fuel. This section will provide insights on the latest innovative approach to detect APU over usage in order to reduce fuel burn and carbon emissions on the ground, as well as optimum single-engine taxi use.  You will see how the platform shows abnormal usage of APU and engines on the ground, leading to savings of up to US $ 200,000 per aircraft per year and over 600 tons of C02. Alerts are auto-generated with overuse of APU.  Additionally, the platform shows the most used airports for Single-Engine Taxi and uses historical data to suggest alternative power sources to the APU to heat or cool the cabin.  Dashboards are generated to easily show the results, the overuse and potential savings. Similar dashboards are generated to show the difference between single engine taxi and dual engine taxi out and the savings that could be generated.

  5. Platform Demo: On-Time Performance Analysis
You will see how the platform analyses On-Time Performance, so that airlines can see where they are wasting time during their arrivals / turnarounds.  The system is connected in real-time to the aircraft so FlightWatching can monitor in detail what is happening to the aircraft on arrival and departure for each aircraft. Key KPIs can be generated for turnarounds; so, for example, how much time are you taking to open the door on arrival? how much time for cargo loading? how much time for fuel loading? etc.  Airlines can see exactly where they are losing time and adjust accordingly as well as monitor key aircraft systems in real-time such as tire pressures which could lead to an OAG during turnaround.

  6. How Legacy Aircraft are On-Boarded to the platform
Finally you will see how legacy aircraft (A300, B767, etc.) with less sophisticated data feeds are on-boarded into the platform.  As you will see this is performed whilst the aircraft is flying, successfully using the aircraft’s avionic boxes and systems such as the hydraulic system, engine systems and more.

About the Aircraft IT Webinar Series:

Every 2 weeks the Aircraft IT website hosts a different live Webinar, each Webinar hosted by a different IT Vendor. These sessions represent the perfect opportunity to learn about a software solution in a more informal manner and to quickly gain an in-depth knowledge of all the major systems on the market, all from the comfort of your own office or home with no sales pressure.

The IT vendor provides a live software demonstration/masterclass of their solution and explains how it can benefit airlines, MROs, Operators, OEMs, Leasing Companies. Once logged on, online delegates can ask questions via the interactive sections of the Webinar or simply sit back and watch and listen to the demonstration. There are two sessions during the day, each differently times to accommodate all time zones.

Each Webinar session is recorded, and an On-Demand version is then posted back to the Aircraft IT website a few days after the live session to allow you to view the content again with your colleagues. The library of On-Demand Webinar recordings provides an invaluable reference source of Flight Operations software demonstrations from the World’s leading Flight Operations IT Vendors.
