Webinar Overview

Register to view this On-Demand Webinar (recorded 10th March 2022) and join the aviation weather experts at Weathernews as they walk you through their next-generation suite of weather solutions and services developed for dispatch, pilots and flight operations staff to increase situational awareness, support real-time decision making, reduce costs (avoiding costly diversions, and saving on unnecessary extra fuel), assist airlines to meet future mandates (such as GADSS aircraft monitoring); and increase key staff productivity and efficiency. As you will see, the solutions can be customized to each airline’s unique weather-related needs and challenges (such as landing minimums and ops policies); the solutions currently support over 13,000 daily flights and monitor 350 airports worldwide; plus they augment existing airline and aircraft systems so can be implemented at low cost. Solutions you will see include: Flight Plan Editor, for high-quality, real-time weather data integrated into existing Flight Planning systems; Flight Watch for a GADSS compliant flight monitoring solution to monitor aircraft performance, set weather alerts and live weather conditions at different flight levels; FOSTER EFB, so pilots can quickly locate severe weather early using a unique cross-section display of the planned flight with weather overlay; En-Route Optimization Support, for alerts to severe weather (Turbulence, Icing and Convection) in a real-time graphical display; and more.  Lastly you will see a new API solution providing all the mandatory WAFS products as well as WNI forecast data to support digitalization.

The Webinar begins with a look at the challenges facing the aviation industry today.  Omicron has further delayed recovery in aviation, further highlighting the need for airlines to digitize and adopt solutions that not only reduce costs, but also increase work productivity and efficiency.  You will see how Weathernews assists customers to meet these challenges and provides the tools needed to meet future mandates such as GADSS aircraft monitoring.  As you will see the Weathernews aviation meteorologists continuously monitor the forecasts and, together with the Risk Communicators team, provide daily weather briefings and updates to airlines allowing dispatchers and operations teams to focus on flying the aircraft during these challenging times; also to provide high-quality weather data so that airlines can make more precise fuel load decisions, thereby avoiding unnecessary fuel, and so that dispatch and pilots are able to plan a more efficient and safer route, in real-time, to avoid any significant weather. Then you will see how the solutions seamlessly integrate with existing systems with a demo and full overview of several different software and service solutions.

During the Webinar you will see demos and Overview of the following solutions:

  1. Flight Watch – Real-Time Flight Monitoring Solution with Integrated Live Weather:
As you will see Flight Watch is a real-time flight and weather monitoring solution that satisfies the requirements of GADSS and is also able to incorporate SBADS-B data.  You will see how to set specific and automated alert functions, both aircraft and weather related, based on your specific threshold and for every flight, plus how to monitor the aircraft performance and view the flight route in a cross-section with live information and weather conditions at different flight levels.

  2. Flight Plan Editor – High-Quality Weather Data Integrated into existing Flight Planning Systems:
You will also see how the Weathernews data integration solution provides airlines with the possibility to integrate high-quality weather forecast data into their current or future Flight Planning systems. As you will see, this solution allows the operations team to continue to use familiar flight planning systems, but with integrated high-quality weather data that allows them to optimize flight routes ahead of take-off. You will also see how the solution allows users to analyze en-route weather and volcanic ash, and parse a flight route: it features horizontal and vertical cross section display functionality.

  3. FOSTER EFB – Pilot Flight Deck App for Real-Time Weather Briefing for all Flight Phases:
Next, a demo of how pilots access displays of the latest weather information for all phases of flight. You will see how pilots can view a cross-section of the planned flight with weather overlay at different flight levels and how they can locate severe weather phenomena early and take action to ensure a comfortable and safe flight.

  4. En-Route Optimization Support (EOS) – Real-Time Turbulence, Icing, Convection, etc. Alerts:
Then, you will see the new high-resolution En-Route Optimization Support tool. If severe weather conditions are expected along the route, EOS contents will alert and provide flight dispatch support to determine the optimum route. Weathernews’ own developed Airway Safety and Comfort (ASC) scale displays current meteorological en-route weather conditions including Turbulence, Icing, and Convection. Airlines can choose different Flight Levels and with a three-rank color code instantly increase productivity. Weathernews’ EOS also incorporates the latest reported PIREP and model output into the ASC scale.

  5. Airspace Critical Operation Support – Volcanic Ash Forecast using AI Detection Technology:
Following that you will be shown the Airspace Critical Operation Support solution for volcanic ash forecasts with worldwide coverage using AI Detection technology. Weathernews monitors volcanoes worldwide, and with propriety radars and cameras can issue early warnings, analysis of the ash plume, height, and concentration of the plume.  The early warnings and world-leading prediction accuracy helps airlines avoid dangerous situations.

  6. Weather Impact on Air Traffic and Airspace Capacity:
Now you will see the collaboration project developed with AvMet which predicts thunderstorm impact on airport traffic and airspace congestion.  The data is provided at the time-of-flight planning.

  7. PIREP / ACARS Solution for Route Specific Turbulence Reports:
Next you will see the tool developed in collaboration with Japan Airlines that automatically processes turbulence reports and uploads them to aircraft flying in the vicinity of reported turbulence.

  8. Flight Operations System Support API:
Finally you will see a new API solution providing all the mandatory WAFS products as well as WNI forecast data to support digitalization to WNI airline customers.

About the Aircraft IT Webinar Series:

Every 2 weeks the Aircraft IT website hosts a different live Webinar, each Webinar hosted by a different IT Vendor. These sessions represent the perfect opportunity to learn about a software solution in a more informal manner and to quickly gain an in-depth knowledge of all the major systems on the market, all from the comfort of your own office or home with no sales pressure.

The IT vendor provides a live software demonstration/masterclass of their solution and explains how it can benefit airlines, MROs, Operators, OEMs, Leasing Companies. Once logged on, online delegates can ask questions via the interactive sections of the Webinar or simply sit back and watch and listen to the demonstration. There are two sessions during the day, each differently times to accommodate all time zones.

Each Webinar session is recorded, and an On-Demand version is then posted back to the Aircraft IT website a few days after the live session to allow you to view the content again with your colleagues. The library of On-Demand Webinar recordings provides an invaluable reference source of Flight Operations software demonstrations from the World’s leading Flight Operations IT Vendors.
