Two New Supplementary Type Certificates Approved For Tablet Based EFB Solution From Scandinavian Avionics

The SA Group headquarters, Scandinavian Avionics has received two new STC approvals for installation of its Electronic Flight Bag solution in B737 and B757


The SA Group is proud to announce two new STCs for its Electronic Flight Bag solution.


Billund, Denmark, 26.01.2016 –
The architected solution for B737 consists of two ruggedized 10.1” Panasonic tablets, Scandinavian Avionics DIC-600 Data Integration Centre with avionics interfaces for integration into the aircrafts data buses, ERC-400 Communication Controller for off board communication, EFB control panels with charging capabilities for pilot’s personal devices and Camera Surveillance system.

The architected solution for B757 consists of two ruggedized 10.1” Panasonic tablets, Scandinavian Avionics DIC-600 Data Integration Centre Server with avionics interfaces for integration into the aircrafts data buses, EFB control panels with charging capabilities for pilot’s personal devices and optional Satcom connection.

Certification activities are finalized and installation and activation are done during the spring at several customer locations. Based on our EASA Part 21.J. and 21.G privileges, Scandinavian Avionics can, as one out of a few suppliers design, manufacture and certify tailored EFB products in house. This adds value, limits risk exposure and increases predictability for customer projects. This are in line with the SA Group philosophy to provide Turn-Key projects to its valued customers.
 
The solutions follow the industry path of utilizing COTS tablets in the cockpit while leaning on avionics components for functions to reside in the aircraft for many years.

“These approvals validate that our developed product portfolio meets the stringent regulatory requirements and can be deployed into all aircraft types. A perfect fit for Airlines with mixed fleets. Utilization of the same equipment in different airframes among the fleets eases maintenance, training and pilot familiarization which in turn yields lower costs of operation.”

An electronic flight bag solution benefits any airline or aircraft operator by reducing weight on board and by saving time on updating the physical charts in the flight bag as well as gaining operational benefits with
connectivity.
