NetLine/Sched Slot Manager supports airlines with slot planning for 2018/19 winter schedule

Apr 05, 2018

Apply for slots by April 23 and May 17

For airlines, the critical phase of planning their 2018/19 winter schedule will start in just a few weeks. Airlines and airport coordinators will have to work closely together observing a clearly defined time frame: By April 23, coordinators must inform airlines of their historical slot rights. The airlines will then have time until May 10 to make use of their grandfather rights. This means that airlines which have used a slot at least 80 percent of the time in their previous winter schedule have the right to retain this slot in their 2018/19 winter schedule. In the period leading up to May 17, airlines can reuse their historical slots, adjust them to fit a new schedule or request new slots.

“Air traffic is continually increasing. As the number of coordinated airports grows, the correct and efficient management of airport slots is becoming more important. Manually managing these slots is not only very complicated, it is also almost impossible to do efficiently,” said Stephan Neumann, Head of Operations Products & Solutions at Lufthansa Systems. “Our NetLine/Sched Slot Manager and NetLine/Sched Slot Monitor solutions support airlines in their slot planning and help them save time and, ultimately, money.”

NetLine/Sched Slot Manager covers the entire slot handling process. The solution handles communication with airport coordinators from the initial slot submission to the end of the respective schedule. Automation enables airlines to benefit from a faster flow of information and fewer potential sources of error. Data no longer has to be entered manually, but employees always retain full control over slot management because they can make manual changes if necessary. NetLine/Sched Slot Monitor helps with analysis and ensures optimum management of slot usage. The program recognizes the effect of schedule changes on an airline’s historical slot rights at an early stage, thus preventing the loss of valuable slots.

Both modules are tightly integrated with each other and are part of NetLine/Sched. The schedule management solution covers all processes for medium- to short-term flight scheduling. NetLine/Sched gives employees access to high-quality optimization tools enabling them to take both operational and commercial aspects into account when scheduling flights and thus improve schedule quality. NetLine/Sched also helps them evaluate “what-if” scenarios and automatically calculates their cost-efficiency.
