navAero pioneers with Microsoft® — Connected Commercial Aviation Mounts for Surface™ Tablets
Sundsvall, Sweden, September 25, 2014 — navAero is pleased to announce the commercialization of an integrated power-and-data-connected mounting solution for the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 tablet.
Having been accepted in the Microsoft “Designed for Surface” (DFS) accessory partner program, navAero has worked directly with Microsoft to design a custom, integrated aircraft mount solution for Surface Pro 3 that offers device power and data connectivity.
The Surface Pro 3 accessory interface has the ability to provide power, data and even video connections to Surface Pro 3 through one component part. This will serve as the connection point for the navAero “Smart” Mount Power/Data Interface (PDi) module to link the Surface device with aircraft power and data bus connectivity. The (PDi) module converts 28VDC from the aircraft power to power that is appropriate for charging a Surface Pro 3. It also feeds aircraft data (ARINC 429, 717, Discretes) from the navAero Universal Aircraft Interface Device (UAID) to the device for use in various software applications along with capability of providing a connection point for Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity.
At present, navAero is the only Microsoft approved vendor to provide power or power and data connectivity solutions for Surface Pro 3 to the aviation industry.
Simone Giordano, navAero President, stated: “Being named a Microsoft DFS Accessory Partner is a tremendous accomplishment for navAero. This affiliation now allows us to bring our airline customers a simple and elegant integrated deployment solution that will help them to realize their aspirations for a connected cockpit using Surface Pro 3 as an EFB platform.”
Giordano continued: “This Microsoft-approved solution further demonstrates the benefits of the navAero “Smart” Mount and integrated Power/Data Interface module technology and its ability to provide connectivity compatibility with multiple device types. It clearly shows the technical and manufacturing excellence and forward adaptability that is represented in every product we deliver to our customers around the globe.”
