M1 Introduces Cutting-Edge Inflight Roaming Offers On Singapore Airlines

Unlimited usage and capped costs for inflight mobile data

Geneva, 19 January 2016
M1 Limited (M1) is changing the face of the inflight mobile data experience by introducing an innovative billing structure. Now M1 customers using SITAONAIR’s Mobile OnAir on Singapore Airlines pay less for using their smartphones for email, social media, and synching their apps over the Internet.

M1 has also removed any potential for bill shock. M1’s customers can now enjoy unlimited inflight data roaming, from Singaporean dollars 25 (USD17.50) per day.

Singapore Airlines is one of the inflight connectivity innovators, having started offering SITAONAIR’s inflight connectivity back in 2012. It is now available on the airline’s B777-300ER and A380 long-haul fleets. In 2015, mobile data was the most popular service: 65% of the passengers who connected to SITAONAIR’s onboard mobile network used it.

Singapore Airlines will also be among the very first airlines to launch high-speed connectivity, over Inmarsat’s GX Aviation network, in the second half of 2016. The first aircraft type to be equipped will be Singapore Airlines’ B777-300ER aircraft, followed by A380-800s and A350-900s.

“We want to make it very simple and offer transparent prices for passengers to use their phones during flights,” said François Rodriguez, Chief Strategy and Marketing Officer of SITAONAIR. “Our partnerships with mobile phone operators across the world allow us to provide airlines and their passengers with the very best deals. The resulting lower prices and clear costs encourage people to use the service. The outcome is clear: in 2015, 19 million people around the globe used Mobile OnAir, making SITAONAIR the market’s dominant inflight mobile phone operator.”

“Now we can stay connected wherever we go, even while in the air. With this new in-flight data roaming service, travellers can stay in touch with their loved ones, answer important e-mail or simply get the latest social media updates,” said Mr P. Subramaniam, Chief Marketing Officer, M1.

M1 is Singapore’s vibrant and dynamic communications company, providing mobile and fixed services to over two million customers.
