Eagle Cap Software introduces Aero Charting App

Eagle Cap Software introduced its solution for the hobbyist flier, the pilot who enjoys the hundred-dollar hamburger but doesn’t like getting too techie. Aero Charting works on an iPad® and provides a moving map with vector aeronautical charts. It also allows custom route creation and integration with AOPA’s Internet Flight Planner. The initial version was released to market February 8, 2019 and adoption has steadily grown.

Brian Leutschaft, Product Manager for Aero Charting at Eagle Cap, says, “We felt there was the need for a simple, easy-to-use situational awareness tool for pilots. It provides the basics needed to plan, navigate and fly the whole of US airspace. We put everything on one screen, made it work on the iPad, and made it free. How’s that?”

How is it free? The Aero Charting base application is ad-supported, and for a limited time, users can permanently turn off the ads for just $9.99. 

A quick follow up release on March 26, 2019 added FAA IFR High/Low Enroute Charts along with VFR Sectionals. “These charts are a necessity for the IFR or VFR pilot. When coupled with GPS input, they greatly improve situational awareness.” Commenting on how quickly user feedback was integrated into their initial product, Leutschaft continued, “We are pleased to continue the rapid development of our Aero Charting application to include the VFR Sectional and IFR Enroute Charts, as well as distance rings in version 1.1. It took us just over a month to develop, test and release this latest version and we are excited to bring this offering to market in such a short amount of time.”

ACS provides the ability for application developers to add aviation data layers to their products. DDS enables data management for mobile applications including transferring, tracking, and updating data. Both components are available to license.
