AVIATAR launches Reliability Solutions

  • New integrative reliability product for modern fleet management
  • “Engineering Analytics Suite” developed in co-creation with partners and customers

AVIATAR, Lufthansa Technik’s independent platform for digital products and services, launches its new Reliability Solutions. Starting with the “Engineering Analytics Suite”, Reliability Solutions will consist of multiple applications that can be enhanced with feature extensions tailored to individual customer needs. The one-stop-shop product for all reliability needs enables its users to gain insights and identify highlights within the data, supports root-cause-analysis & authority reports, and tracks actions including their effectiveness. The customer-centric solution was developed in co-creation with partners and customers.

With the go-live of its first available application Engineering Analytics Suite within the new AVIATAR Reliability Solutions, customers can now create professional live data dashboards containing charts on fleet performance indicators. Collaboration between user groups like Technical Fleet Managers, Reliability Managers, Maintenance Control Center Experts and Trouble Shooters is enhanced by creating customized dashboards that can be easily adapted by adding alert and target levels, comments and changing the chart size as well as appearance. This is designed to enable dialog on performance indicators and empower users to collaborate and dive deeply into data when required.

The Engineering Analytics Suite combines data sources such as live aircraft data and information from M&E (maintenance & engineering) systems to enable holistic analysis and reporting on fleet reliability. It provides the data in a self-explanatory user interface and will use AI technology for natural language processing to improve manually entered data during flight operations.

More extensions for this application will be available this year, including reporting and case management.

Dr. Jan-Philipp Graesch, Product Lead Reliability Solutions at AVIATAR said: “Simply providing our customers with a Fleet Performance solution was not enough. Thus, we were looking for a centralized application that could integrate multiple available data sources and still provide a self-explanatory interface for performance monitoring as well as root cause research and analysis. Thanks to many workshops with our customers and our Lufthansa Technik engineers, who are part of our Digital Tech Ops Ecosystem, I am excited to see the Engineering Analytics Suite now live. It goes far beyond fleet performance, and in 2024 there will be more to come, enabling best-in-class data monitoring and alerting of repetitive defects.”

About Lufthansa Technik
The Lufthansa Technik Group is one of the leading providers of technical aircraft services in the world. Certified internationally as maintenance, production and design organization, the company employs more than 22,000 people in dozens of locations around the globe. Lufthansa Technik offers the full range of services for commercial, VIP and special mission aircraft. The portfolio includes maintenance, repair, overhaul and modification of airframes, engines, components and landing gears, as well as the manufacture of innovative cabin products and digital fleet support.

Eurowings introduced AVIATAR’s Electronic Technical Logbook

  • Electronic Technical Logbook replaces paper processes and enables real-time communication
  • Another milestone in the long-standing partnership between Eurowings and AVIATAR

Eurowings Technik is the first CAMO organization in the Lufthansa Group to complete the introduction of the AVIATAR Electronic Technical Logbook (eTLB) for the entire fleet of Eurowings’ flight operations. As a result, paper-based processes in the cockpit, such as the documentation of pre-flight checks and the recording of technical defects by the cockpit crew on forms, which had to be entered manually and therefore with a time delay into various systems, are now redundant. By connecting to AMOS, the maintenance and engineering software used by Eurowings Technik, the digital logbook solution enables communication between crew and maintenance in nearly real time and provides information on the technical condition of the respective aircraft.

Eurowings and AVIATAR can already look back on many years of successful partnership: As one of the first partners of the digital platform founded by Lufthansa Technik, Eurowings and AVIATAR are working together to further develop digital solutions and enable more stable and reliable flight operations. The value airline of the Lufthansa Group already uses a variety of AVIATAR solutions: Condition Monitoring for fleet monitoring, Predictive Health Analytics for predictive maintenance and the Engineering Analytics Suite for modern fleet management. The introduction of the eTLB now marks a further milestone in the collaboration.

Matthias Gruber, Vice President Technical Fleet Management Eurowings and Managing Director Eurowings Technik said: “The eTLB is a milestone in the digitalization of our processes in the cockpit and in maintenance. Not only does it enable us to make flight operations more efficient, but the replacement of paper processes also represents a decisive step towards greater sustainability. We look forward to continuing to work with the AVIATAR team to shape an innovative, efficient and sustainable future together.”

Frank Martens, Senior Director Sales AVIATAR and Digital Products at Lufthansa Technik, added: “To meet the expectations of our partners and customers as well as our own ambitious goals, here at AVIATAR we are constantly striving to develop the best digital solutions on the market together with our partners. We look forward to continuing to drive digital transformation in aviation together with Eurowings to maximize efficiency in technical operations.”

AVIATAR’s Technical Logbook offers prefilled text blocks and automated input masks that capture technical issues of the aircraft during flight and on ground. It therefore replaces time-consuming manual entries into paper books and improves data quality as well as transparency. The solution works with any hardware device (e.g. tablet, smartphone or desktop computer) and provides pilots with access to aircraft status anywhere and anytime. It also offers back-up processes in case of connectivity issues. Real-time data availability, directly connected with the M&E (maintenance and engineering) system, ensures maintenance on arrival and enables a seemless pilot-to-maintenance collaboration – leading to decreased turnaround times and costs. In addition, the standardized data structure helps airlines to gain insights into trend analytics.

Beams AI Turbocharges airBaltic’s Safety Hazard Detection

In January 2024, airBaltic partnered with Beams to leverage artificial intelligence and enhance safety risk management. As one of the first airlines globally to adopt AI in this critical area, airBaltic’s collaboration with Beams marks a significant advancement in how safety data is processed and analyzed within the airline industry.

After integrating Beams AI into its safety risk management processes six months ago, airBaltic’s safety teams have observed a notable improvement in hazard detection accuracy and processing speed. Beams AI detects low-risk reports with over 99% accuracy, saving the team a vast amount of processing time.

Traditional automation in safety risk management often falls short in providing the nuanced analysis needed for effective risk mitigation in aviation. Beams AI, trained specifically in aviation risk analysis and enriched with airBaltic’s historical data, can now swiftly process and analyze over 30,000 safety reports to identify hazards.

The profound impact of AI on hazard detection has led airBaltic to extend its collaboration with Beams, supporting the development of new AI products aimed at further enhancing risk management. A key initiative involves training Beams’ machine learning models with airBaltic’s extensive historical data to automatically generate organization-wide hazard trends, further strengthening the airline’s proactive safety measures.

“Beams AI enables airbaltic to detect potential hazards in near real-time, allowing our operation to respond swiftly and effectively, ensuring the safety and efficiency of our flights,” says Pauls Cālītis, Chief Operations Officer and Board Member at airBaltic. “We’re proud to lead the industry in using advanced risk management technologies.”

airBaltic is committed to maintaining the highest safety standards in the industry and believes that embracing advanced AI technologies is essential to achieving this goal.
