skybook keeps an intelligent eye on the sky
Keeping track of the weather – one of the single most challenging factors in aviation operations across the globe.
On any given day, the weather picture can and will continuously change, throwing up constant curve balls that could result in the need to change, re-route a flight or worse, could see an operator having to switch to an alternate airfield, causing all manner of operational challenges.
We know how vital it is for our clients to have ready access to the most reliable and detailed weather information and that’s why skybook dynamically imports live global forecast data from the likes of the UK MET Office and NOAA, instantly refreshing the data ensuring that the latest is always available for Ops Teams, Dispatchers and Air Crews.
Should the weather picture deteriorate affecting cloud base, visibility, wind speed or any of your operational minima, skybook will intelligently flag the problem area, bringing it to the attention of those who need to know.
This type of intelligent identification and flagging can be found throughout skybook, in particular within our Airfield Watcher module and our Companion Tablet App, as skybook constantly imports the very latest operational data, comparing it against the minima for each client and automatically flagging it for attention should something fall below acceptable operational levels.
It’s this kind of intelligent automation that sets skybook aside from other solutions ensuring the delivery of real world savings, operational efficiencies, improved accuracy and accountability.
You don’t need to take our word for it though. Here’s what Samuel Eberle, Operations Control Manager for Helvetic Airways found when they integrated Airfield Watch into their daily dispatch:
“Before using Airfield Watcher, our dispatchers made a weather briefing regarding their destinations at the start of their shift, once per day. A continuous weather briefing was not part of their duties.
It happened more than once that only the flight crew during the briefing realised that the weather at their destination was at or below the minimum. At this point, it can already be too late to delay a flight (flight duty time) or to reroute the flight to another destination.
We operate at some very weather critical destinations like London City, Florence and Balkan airports, all of which have very different minima’s regarding wind (tailwind, crosswind), visibility and ceiling.
With the Airfield Watcher our dispatchers now have a tool where they can update the weather on all our destinations themselves within a few seconds and even update alternates too. Nowadays we are able to detect weather issues at our destinations and alternates much earlier and, especially, easier than before.”

Gone Surfing! Bluebox Portable IFE Connects to the Internet with TCS World Travel
Guests aboard TCS World Travel’s IFEC-enabled aircraft can now watch Early Window Content AND live travel broadcasts via Bluebox Hybrid portable IFE iPads
Dunfermline, UK – 30 August 2017 – TCS World Travel, the world leader in all-inclusive private jet expeditions for nearly 25 years, has upgraded its Bluebox-based IFE system to Bluebox Hybrid, the connected version of Bluebox Ai, which was deployed across their fleet in April this year. Bluebox Hybrid provides secure, pre-loaded Early Window Content (EWC) in a wireless cabin. This means travellers can now choose to watch the latest Hollywood films or browse the internet, check email or access the latest news, all from one of TCS World Travel’s Bluebox Hybrid iPads on board their Boeing 757, operated by TAG Aviation.
“We provide our guests with unique, highly personalised journeys around the world, and with internet connectivity now installed on one of our aircraft, we’re able to do even more to enrich their experience while in the air,” said Shelley Cline, President, TCS World Travel. “This goes beyond keeping our guests entertained or connected, but allows us to offer innovative ways to educate them about their next destination, such as live presentations from travel experts broadcast to our Bluebox Hybrid iPads.”
“When we were selected by TCS World Travel to be their primary IFE system provider, we were confident we could be part of their connectivity roadmap, and are thrilled to prove the flexibility of Bluebox IFE with this deployment,” said David Brown, Business Development Director, Bluebox Aviation Systems Ltd. “With Bluebox Ai, we delivered the IFE quality and the ‘it just works’ simplicity TCS World Travel wanted, but we also knew we could grow with them when they were ready to offer full internet connectivity. It’s what Bluebox Hybrid is all about – providing the security studios demand for EWC but offering connectivity as well, whether via a local/in-aircraft Wi-Fi network or to the wider internet if an aircraft has SATCOM system installed, as TCS World Travel has just done.”
TCS World Travel’s Boeing 757s are customized for every journey, taking up to 80 guests on unique itineraries visiting the world’s most iconic destinations. The company recently announced it had installed Rockwell Collins’ CabinConnect™ aboard one of its aircraft, a custom-configured Boeing 757 operated by TAG Aviation, using Inmarsat’s GX Aviation service to deliver fast and reliable Internet connectivity in the air.

(NYSE: UTX), today unveiled a new 80,000-square foot manufacturing and nacelle assembly facility at its award-winning Foley, Alabama campus. The company expects to add up to 260 new jobs at the site, ultimately increasing its Foley workforce to more than 1,000 employees. The campus is part of UTC Aerospace Systems’ Aerostructures business unit, which maintains a global footprint of nacelle design, original equipment manufacturing and maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) sites.
Expected to be fully operational by year’s end, the new building will feature a range of innovative manufacturing technology, including automated material movement to index large nacelle component platforms down the assembly line, an overhead rail system with vacuum lifts and an automated painting system. These new advanced manufacturing systems, which have been piloted at other UTC Aerospace Systems’ Aerostructures sites around the world, will greatly increase the efficiency of operations required to assemble and paint nacelle systems, as well as provide ergonomic benefits for employees.
The new building is LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified by the U.S. Green Building Council, and features a sanitation system that incorporates rainwater collection. As the third manufacturing building on the Foley campus, it will serve as a complement to the site’s existing 230,000-square foot original equipment plant and 210,000-square foot MRO facility.
The Foley site assembles nacelles for integration with the Pratt & Whitney Geared Turbofan™ engine for a number of aircraft platforms, including the Airbus A320neo, Bombardier C Series, Mitsubishi Regional Jet and Embraer E-Jet E2. In February, it was named one of IndustryWeek magazine’s 2016 Best Plants in North America.
“Our expansion in Foley would not be possible without the strong support we’ve received from the state, the county and the city, and we’re proud to continue to work together to create jobs in Alabama,” said Marc Duvall, President, Aerostructures, UTC Aerospace Systems. “Foley has always been a standout location due to our employees’ dedication to meeting customer needs through the diligent application of our ACE operating system’s tools of continuous improvement, and we look forward to better serving our customers through the addition of these new advanced manufacturing features.”
