Swiss-AS secures tender with Iberian PGA – Portugalia Airlines

PGA FIRST PORTUGUESE AMOS CUSTOMER

Swiss-AS is pleased to announce that PGA – Portugália Airlines has chosen AMOS to provide maintenance management for their entire fleet. In the evaluation phase, during an MRO software presentation and a several-day workshop, Swiss-AS had the opportunity to convince the PGA project team of the advantages of AMOS and its proven implementation procedure.

“The Swiss-AS team is delighted about the cooperation with PGA. We welcome the first Iberian customer in the AMOS community and are pleased to add the Iberian Peninsula to the “AMOS map”, which used to be one of the last remaining uncovered areas in Europe,” says Ronald Schaeuffele, CEO of Swiss-AS.

STREAMLINING OF MAINTENANCE OPERATIONS

The implementation project is scheduled for ten months and the kick-off will take place without delay.

During the pre-sales, PGA was concerned about the implementation phase since the roll out of an MRO software is always a complex and time consuming task whose changes impacts the entire maintenance organisation. Swiss-AS was able to allay these doubts due to its immense implementation experience and throughout the history of the company, no project has ever failed. Additionally, both companies closely cooperated to define and confirm all implementation steps in the run-up to the kick-off meeting.

“PGA will evolve to a level of excellence by improving the quality of its maintenance and engineering activity with AMOS. Process streamlining with an integrated platform and the quality of PGA manpower are key ingredients. We work hard on people to attain optimal competency – we chose AMOS to get there,” states Miguel Vaz Pinto, Maintenance and Engineering Director at PGA.

To familiarise its 80 mechanics with AMOS, PGA decided to use the train-the-trainer approach, meaning that internal trainers help to replicate the training originally delivered by Swiss-AS. Traditionally, the end user training will take place during the final weeks prior to Go-Live.

Swiss-AS breaks new ground – Southern Air first AMOS customer in the United States

AMOS TO SUPPORT GROWTH PLANS OF SOUTHERN AIR

Swiss-AS is proud to announce the first US-American customer to join the discerning AMOS customer community: Southern Air. It is expected this will be the first of many after the recent setting up of a USA office through a partnership deal of Swiss-AS and its sister company Lufthansa Systems Americas.

After an extensive software evaluation process Southern Air made the judicious decision to select AMOS as the MRO software solution to manage their M&E activities. The cargo carrier has a substantial growth plan including the addition of further B747 and B777F aircraft in the near future which will also imply a significant increase of the current 700+ workforce, in particular the current 150 MRO system users. In order to meet the demands of this positive growth plan a replacement MRO system was required. The implementation of AMOS will support Southern Air’s strategy and vision to be one of the most successful international cargo airlines in the world.

It is expected that the implementation project takes approx. 10 to 12 months to complete and will culminate with a Go-Live that will see all of the core modules running in the company. Southern Air has already decided to implement the system “as-is” because the system already has the knowledge and know-how over almost 100 customers incorporated into the procedures and processes, there is no point to reinvent the wheel.

FIRST US CUSTOMER ONLY NINE MONTHS AFTER OPENING OF AMOS AMERICAS OFFICE

The announcement follows only 9 months after the set up of this United States office. “It is a major achievement to win a USA based customer after such a short period of time in the region and I am confident that this is the first of many as we are speaking to many significant companies at the moment here. It is clear that this market was really waiting for a world class state-of-the-art option to manage the complex and critical aircraft maintenance requirements” states Daragh Cunningham, Director of AMOS Americas at Lufthansa Systems.

This office was set up to bring AMOS to the American continent as ithad not been actively marketed there previously. The set up of theoffice shows a real commitment to the region by Swiss-AS and has been paying off already. The arrival of AMOS to this market has been met with great enthusiasm and excitement by the airline and MRObusiness, who welcome a product of this calibre.

Smart4Aviation and DW International partnership agreement on RAIM check functionality

Smart4Aviation and DW International announced a partnership agreement encompassing the provision of RAIM/RNP check functionality.

Thanks to data provided by DW International and Smart4Aviation technology the RAIM (Receiver Autonomous Integrity Monitoring) check functionality allows a quick and reliable check of RAIM availability. The service allows flight planners, dispatchers and aircrew to plan around periods of reduced GNSS availability by taking all route details from the flight plan and calculating RAIM availability for all route types – oceanic, en-route, terminal, and approach – on a leg-by-leg basis, including destination and alternate airports for RNAV and RNP operations anywhere in the world. Whenever the System detects a GPS outage for any part of the flight planned route flight dispatch and the flight crew is alerted by presenting details of the outage (time, location, and duration).

Dirk-Jan Baas, Managing Director and CEO of Smart4Aviation says “Smart4Aviation is very pleased to be working with DW International in providing RAIM predictions to our customers”.

“This is a great opportunity for DWI and Smart4Aviation to work together to provide a seamless service to the end user. With GRPS integrated into Smart4Aviations flight-planning system, RAIM coverage is predicted automatically as a route is being planned,” says John Wilde, CEO of DWI.

The RAIM check functionality can be easily integrated with the Smart4Aviation’s Smart BRIEF, Smart COMM and Smart OPS modules.

AMOS successfully in operation at Swiss Cargo Airline FARNAIR

SMOOTH GO-LIVE WITH ZERO OPERATIONAL IMPACT

At the Euro Airport Basel/Mulhouse, Swiss-AS’ neighbour FARNAIR recently went live with the advanced M&E system AMOS. The crossover from the legacy system was smooth without any operational impact and all modules went live simultaneously. AMOS is implemented enterprise-wide and for all types of aircraft at FARNAIR (including all eight outstations).

Due to the proximity of both companies, the Swiss cargo carrier attended a multitude of AMOS standard trainings in-house at Swiss-AS’ headquarters. In addition the AMOS users were familiarised with the new MRO software via e-learning and on-the-job training. Besides the obvious advantage of taking part in the non-customised training sessions at Swiss-AS’ premises, this project did not differ from any other implementation although Swiss-AS and FARNAIR are both situated at the same airport.

EXTREMELY LEAN IMPLEMENTATION

This implementation project is considered to be extremely lean as there were no customisations of the software at all, combined with a high project commitment and availability at the customer’s side. It is always difficult to grant sufficient resources and time for project work especially where small airlines are concerned.

The Go-Live was almost completely handled by FARNAIR itself and Swiss-AS just supported the post Go-Live phase with a number of trainers, developers and the project manager.

Data cleansing, mapping and transfer turned out to be the major challenge within this implementation. FARNAIR’s decision to hire experts that were exclusively dedicated to the data transfer task, turned out to be a good one as it meant that this normally time consuming process was considerably faster than usual.

ABOUT FARNAIR

The FARNAIR Group, having its headquarters in Basel, Switzerland, is composed of the two airlines FARNAIR Switzerland (Basel, Switzerland) and FARNAIR Hungary, FARNAIR Handling (both Budapest, Hungary) and FARNAIR Rail Logistics Europe. With more than 25 years experience in the aviation business, FARNAIR offers express air cargo transport and logistics as well as high quality individualised passenger transportation. Every night, the FARNAIR Europe freight aircraft convey cargo from various locations all over Europe. The passenger aircraft is employed on behalf of the Swiss Confederation for flights to Kosovo as well as for charter flights within Europe and to North Africa. As one of the biggest ATR operators in Europe, FARNAIR operates a fleet of 15 ATR 72-200/42-320 and two BEECH 1900. The Swiss airline executes all Line Maintenance and Base Maintenance up to C-Check in-house for its entire fleet.

Go Live the 30th of June 2011 of Aero-Webb® for the Fleet Data Management of civil aircraft for Snecma (Safran Group)

Go Live the 30th of June 2011 of Aero-Webb® for the Fleet Data Management of civil aircraft for Snecma (Safran Group). The solution is used by Snecma in France and by its partner in Russia.

It is based on the v5.0 release of Aero-Webb® on the functional scope of the Fleet Management (FM) and Master Configuration Hub (MCH) modules.

Snecma is now able to track and control configurations (aircraft structures, engines, modules, parts…), update usage (potentials consumption, operator or owner transfers) and manage all event types (operational, assembly/disassembly, tasks or SB or AD application) attached to its new civil engines (SaM146 program).

Aero-Webb® proposes workflow oriented transactions with better data traceability and status tracking. The tool offers the possibility to easily link operational events to configuration or maintenance events in order to track performed actions on engines with their original causes. The research capabilities on events or assets table are with multi criteria (possibility to keep in memory these criteria) so that it becomes very simple to retrieve information, and get feedback on fleet data. Moreover, Failure, Malfunction and Defect forms are available in PDF or Excel output formats.

In addition, data loaders of Aero-Webb® are XML format compliant. For instance, our module FM is able to fully import assets and events information from external information systems. For the customer, it is now easy to take advantages of the FM added value functionalities.

Next steps will be to get feedback based on analysis of data acquired by the system and integrate military engines (M53, M88, Tyne, ATAR and LARZAC) that will come within the scope of the project in early 2012.

Monarch Airlines selects Flightman for fleet wide Electronic Flight Bag software implementation

Monarch Airlines have selected the Flightman EFB (Electronic Flight Bag) software to provide a cockpit data solution to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs. Monarch Airlines will install the Flightman EFB software suite of applications across their entire fleet of aircraft.

The Flightman platform will connect to Monarch Airlines’ existing ground-based enterprise systems using secure 3G communications technologies. The core set of applications include eJourney Log, Electronic Flight Folder, eReporting and Aircraft Data Management together with the ground based Flightman EFB management system. These applications will be installed on Class 2 EFB devices.

Commenting on the selection of Flightman, Nils Christy, Operations Director at Monarch Airlines, said “Flightman will enable Monarch Airlines to achieve a paperless cockpit and streamline our operational processes. This will allow our aircraft to operate to maximum efficiency and achieve significant cost savings.”
