Working with paper Logbooks is inefficient and time-consuming. Due to the manual nature of paper logbook, it is prone to incomplete and illegible information creating difficulties in clear communication between flight and maintenance crew. Also, managing and storing paper log books is very expensive. The many shortcomings of paper logbooks can often result in severe implications to operations and increased cost. Different teams across the organization work with tech log pages in helping airlines achieve operational goals. To improve performance, you need a digital tech log solution that enables teams to efficiently perform their job while eliminating the shortcoming of paper tech logs. 

Boeing Mobile Logbook is a fleet-agnostic electronic mobile logbook solution that replaces paper logbooks. It eliminates the challenges and shortcomings of paper logbooks. It provides much-needed efficiency and accuracy in executing  critical pre-flight, in-flight and post-flight processes in the flight deck, in the cabin and in line maintenance. Boeing mobile logbook automatically transfers data to the maintenance planning system for permanent storage, through integration, avoiding time consuming data entry.

Boeing Mobile Logbook application works on iOS and Windows tablets. It has 3 unique interfaces namely, Pilot interface, Cabin interface and Maintenance interface. Each interface provides unique capabilities to the personnel and enables accurate and efficient data capture through the use of prefilled dropdown menus while also providing free form text fields. Workflows ensure completeness of record.

During the Webinar Boeing experts will demo Boeing Mobile Logbook functionality, simulating all phases of flight:

  1. Pre-flight: Pilot Demo
    First, switching between Windows and iPad devices, the demo will follow the Pilots typical Pre-flight activities such as: acceptance of the airplane, fuel uplift, pre-flight checks (de-icing, etc) and viewing complete aircraft status updates (deferred MEL/CDL and categorized MEL/CDL items, etc.). You will also see how the solution works in off-line mode where connectivity is unavailable and how, in this scenario, a USB device is used to leave the Logbook on the ground prior to take-off.

  2. In-flight: Pilot and Cabin Crew Demos
    Next the demo follows pilots and cabin crew in-flight workflows.  You will see how the pilot enters a fault / complaint in real-time (in this instance a bird strike) and fills in customized forms. Also, how the cabin crew and pilot devices communicate seamlessly during flight.

  3. Post-Flight: Pilot and Maintenance Technical Demos
    Finally, you will see the Pilot close the flight and hand the aircraft over to maintenance. The demo will then follow the maintenance technician’s workflow including logging in, viewing open complaints (in this instance the bird strike reported in-flight), actioning the complaint, closing the logbook item, issuing a certificate of release to service, and more.
