28th JAN 2019 Aer Lingus has chosen to continue its long-standing relationship with Vistair’s safety management solution, SafetyNet; a reporting system and investigation solution that drives real change in the management of safety-related occurrences. This forms part of Aer Lingus’ ‘Continuous Improvement Approach’ to safety management.

Vistair has worked with Aer Lingus since 2008, when SafetyNet was initially implemented to consolidate their safety reporting processes and to assist the airline in managing regulatory compliance.

Originally established in 1936, Aer Lingus, part of IAG, is Ireland’s flag carrier and operates a mixed fleet of Airbus, Boeing and ATR aircraft. Currently operating to/from more than 90 airports across 24 countries it has recently unveiled a superb new brand livery. It employs over 4,000 people and is a significant global airline.

The recent agreement with Vistair strengthens the existing relationship and ensures Aer Lingus continues to have access to a simplified and intuitive safety reporting and investigation solution. An enterprise-wide supported solution this means the Aer Lingus team is able to identify, collect, collate and analyse safety reports to support a higher level of quality and safety assurance throughout the organisation.

Increased Reporting

Designed with confidentiality, transparency and feedback as its core, SafetyNet’s user-friendly and intuitive interface empowers proactive voluntary reporting and has proven itself to be an essential support for Just Culture mobilisation. Its online / offline and synchronisation capability provides the flexibility the Aer Lingus team need to ensure that safety report capture is both straightforward and time flexible.

As an early adopter of SafetyNet, Aer Lingus have seen a significant increase in reports since the implementation, with an average of 4600 individual reports currently being raised each year.

Conor Nolan, Director of Safety at Aer Lingus comments: “The decision to implement SafetyNet over 10 years ago reaped immediate benefits and continues to support our safety management approach. Now more than ever, we as an airline are subject to improvement and regulatory change, so it is imperative that our Safety Management Software supports our evolving requirements.

He Adds “Not only has SafetyNet contributed to a better reporting culture year on year, it has also played a fundamental role in the identification of latent issues and demonstrating our continuous improvement of safety”.

Safety Oversight

With a number of safety programs and auditing processes embedded in their operations, Aer Lingus needed their safety management measures to be monitored in one centralised system with full visibility of reports and incidents. Through confidential and transparent workflow efficiencies, SafetyNet has enabled better safety oversight in Aer Lingus’s operations.

Aer Lingus’s relentless focus on safety management is further exemplified by their ranking of Top 10 safest LLC’s globally in 2018 which is also testament to the robust safety management system they have in place today.

Ian Herbert, CEO at Vistair comments “Aer Lingus is an important Vistair customer and we are wholly-committed to supporting their business operations going forward. The continued investment and development of our safety and quality management technology suite benefits Aer Lingus in many ways and our aim is to ensure SafetyNet continues to support their aviation management approach moving forward”.

The Irish Flag Carrier plans for further growth as part of the International Airlines Group (IAG). Other IAG members Iberia, Vueling, British Airways and Level also work with Vistair via the document management system, DocuNet, which supports the management and publication of their operational manuals.

Since 2015, Aer Lingus has added routes from Dublin to Philadelphia, Seattle, Newark, Los Angeles, Connecticut, and Miami, with plans to grow its transatlantic fleet from 17 to 30 aircraft by 2023.
