Electronic aerodrome charts to be supplied to AIDU

March 20, 2012 (TORONTO) - Navtech Inc., a leader in flight operations software and services, announced a multi-year contract with the UK Ministry of Defence Aeronautical Information Documents Unit (No 1 AIDU) to provide Navtech eCharts to their customers, including the Royal Air Force, the Royal Navy and The British Army.  No1 AIDU, which is choosing to concentrate on the production of military aerodrome charts, will provide Navtech's electronic charts of commercial aerodromes to UK military services.

AIDU's mission is to "Deliver all aeronautical information products and services to UK Defence through production, partnering or acquisition to support the achievement of Defence objectives."  This 59 year old government department is ISO 9001 certified, and has a reputation for elite offerings.  Their production responsibilities include all aspects of aeronautical data, including arrival, departure, and in-flight data as well as digital cockpit moving map imagery.  These products and data are used for training missions, search and rescue duties, humanitarian aid and other areas of aviation military operations.

Steve Read, Aeronautical Information Requirements Manager at No 1 AIDU said: "No 1 AIDU are delighted to be working in partnership with Navtech for the supply of our civilian airfield Terminal Charting requirements. The comprehensive worldwide library coverage allows immediate access to arrival, departure and procedure information in support of UK and deployed operations. In addition to accessing Navtech charts using eCharts Office and Web, No 1 AIDU and Navtech have jointly developed the additional capability of displaying eCharts on AIDU's own internal website, allowing both military and commercial information to be accessed at the same time. This has proven to be of great benefit for crews and flight planning staff alike in combining information sources. We look forward to our future work together and developing the supply and delivery of aeronautical information to the UK MoD as our military requirement evolves.''

Navtech eCharts is an electronic chart viewer available on three platforms: eCharts Office for desktop use;eCharts Flight for the flight deck use; and eCharts Web for pilot briefing. The  aerodrome charts available via these applications are derived from Navtech's growing and  expansive chart library of 60,000+ pages, supplementary text chapters and optional airline specific content.  Navtech eCharts is an innovative product, designed with touch screen GUI, night mode visualization, and an upgraded PDF-viewer, suitable for any Electronic Flight Bag  (EFB) use.
